WHO IS HE?

Chambray is a fabric similar in appearance to Denim, but woven in a plain weave. A dyed warp thread, often blue, is combined with an ecru weft thread, creating a subtle contrast that gives it its characteristic heathered look.

Without the diagonal effect of Denim, it offers an appearance that is both raw and refined.

Supple and breathable, it drapes naturally on the body and is suitable for both fluid cuts and more structured pieces: shirts, blouses, light dresses or small summer jackets.

WHY DO WE LOVE IT SO MUCH?

For its breathable lightness, perfect from the first rays of sunshine

For its fluid drape that enhances both flowing cuts and structured silhouettes

For its ease of sewing, making it an ideal fabric for beginners and for perfecting finishes alike

Weave: plain weave (dyed warp thread, ecru weft thread)

Origin: French design, manufactured in our workshops in India

Certifications: BCI certified cotton, Oeko-Tex

YOUR QUESTIONS ABOUT CHAMBRAY COTTON

What is Chambray?

Chambray is a fabric similar to denim: a dyed warp thread (often blue) combined with an ecru or light weft thread, which gives it its characteristic mottled appearance.

What is the difference between Chambray and Denim?

Chambray and Denim share a characteristic blue appearance, but their construction differs.

Denim is generally woven in a twill weave, which gives it a denser and more resistant structure, while Chambray is woven in a plain weave, usually lighter and more supple.

Chambray is thus particularly well-suited for shirts, blouses, and light dresses, while Denim is more commonly used for more structured pieces such as pants, jackets, or overshirts.

Is Chambray stretchy?

No, like denim, chambray is a non-stretch, woven fabric that is soft and slightly crisp to the touch.

How to care for Chambray fabric?

To care for your Chambray fabric, opt for a 30°C delicate cycle wash, gentle spin, and air dry to preserve its color and drape. For dark shades (Used Blue, Tencel Deep Night), a separate first wash is recommended.

Is Atelier Brunette Chambray suitable for beginner sewers?

Yes, Chambray Atelier Brunette is suitable for beginner sewers; its flexibility and stability make it an accessible fabric for first projects, while also appealing to experienced sewers for more elaborate pieces.

What patterns to sew in Chambray?

Chambray is ideal for sewing patterns for shirts, blouses, light dresses, skirts, and summer trousers.
